Dumbbell Wrist Curl

The Wrist Curl (Dumbbells) is a forearm isolation exercise that flexes the wrists while the forearms remain supported. Independent dumbbells let each wrist move through its own controlled range.

Step by step

How to do the Dumbbell Wrist Curl

  1. Sit with a light dumbbell in each hand, palms facing up, and support your forearms on your thighs or a flat bench with wrists just beyond the edge.
  2. Keep the forearms still and allow the wrists to extend slowly so the dumbbells lower under control without opening your grip.
  3. Curl the dumbbells upward by flexing only the wrists, keeping the hands aligned with the forearms rather than bending sideways.
  4. Pause briefly at the top without squeezing so hard that the wrists lose position.
  5. Lower through a comfortable range and repeat while the elbows and forearms remain firmly supported.

Common mistakes

  • Using heavy dumbbells that force momentum

  • Letting the wrists bend toward the thumb or little-finger side
  • Opening the hands and allowing the dumbbells to roll toward the fingertips
